In June, we made a trip out to Scottsdale for the wedding of James' childhood friend, Nathan. We were a little nervous when we learned the reception would be outdoors in the desert in a big barn- June in Phoenix is usually not outdoor weather!- but the night was not too warm and we had a great time! The food was delicious and we got to see a lot of friends we haven't seen in awhile. Keira was a little slow to warm to the wedding- sitting still and waiting isn't really her thing- but she loved blowing out the tealight candles on the table and singing Happy Birthday. Apparently, she thinks any candle is a birthday candle and should be promptly blown out. Perhaps she'll be a firefighter one day!
Keira always loves being spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa Arce, they made sure she got lots of love and attention.
It took her awhile, but after dinner Keira realized there were other kids at the wedding. And not just other kids, BIG girls. Big girls are Keira's favorite new thing. She'll find a big girl at the park and follow her around, holding hands and playing. She was definitely the baby of the group, but the other kids were great with her and let her play with them and participate in their games.
After playing, the dancing started! Keira found this big girl for a dance partner and danced, and danced, and DANCED. They were spinning, running, twirling, and Keira was having the time of her life. We couldn't convince her to leave until after 10 o'clock... which is WAY past her bedtime. The only way we could convince her to leave was to tell her that the dancing was over. They had cleared the dance floor to start the first dance... We didn't stick around for that- we were sure if she saw any more dancing we would have been there past midnight!
Since we were so close and the wedding was on a Friday, we decided to drive up to Prescott and visit my parents retirement home and see our good friends Dana and Anna and their kids. Keira loved the house, I'm sure nothing is where my mom and dad left it. The community also has an indoor and outdoor pool, so we made to get some swimming in with Faith and Casey, Dana and Anna's kids. It was great, both pools, tennis courts, and a playground is walking distance from the house!
Keira shocked us again when she REFUSED to get off the step. She'd sit on the step and splash and kick, but the second either of us tried to take her in, she'd start screaming and lunging for the step. Last summer, she wouldn't get out until her lips were blue! We're definitely going to sign up for swimming lessons this summer, hopefully she gets in the water!
After swimming, we headed over to Dana and Anna's for a barbeque. Keira found Casey and Faith's trampoline and was in heaven. She loved jumping, and did great until she came down wrong and twisted her knee a little. However, an ice cream sandwich fixed everything (as they usually do), and she was ready to play some more.
She found Faith's dress up box and fell in love with this Tangled princess dress. She came upstairs and showed off her "pretty dress," spinning and loving looking like a princess. I think we'll have to ask Santa for some dress up clothes this year...
We had a long drive home, but we had a great trip!
